How the wanted board works

Post the plate you want, or answer a buyer who is looking.

For buyers

  1. Post what you're after on the wanted board: an exact combination (e.g. SURFS), or use wildcards: ? means any one character and * means any number of characters, including none. E.g. JL?? (JL plus two characters) or *BAKER* (anything containing BAKER). Add more detail in the notes.
  2. Optional: your maximum budget, and any notes (style, lookalikes OK).
  3. Your post shows your first name or username only — never your contact details.
  4. Sellers with a match message you on PlateYard. You'll see it in your dashboard inbox. Check the board or your inbox for replies; email alerts aren't available yet.
  5. Posts stay up for 90 days, then expire. Under Your wanted posts on the board you can edit, close, or renew a post for another 90 days.

For sellers

  • Browse the wanted board. If you've got a match, tap I have this plate to message the buyer privately. It's a good idea to list the plate too (free), so they can see the details.

Ground rules

  • Phone numbers, emails and links are removed from posts and messages. Contact details are only shared if both of you choose to share them in the inbox.
  • Closed or expired posts don't take new messages. You can still reply in conversations you've already started.
  • You can report or block someone from their post.
  • PlateYard doesn't negotiate or set prices for either side. Try the price checker for an estimate (not an appraisal).
  • Only people who've chosen to use PlateYard are matched. We don't contact plate owners elsewhere.

PlateYard is independent and isn't affiliated with NZTA (Waka Kotahi), KiwiPlates or LicenSys.
